Poplar Street Tram Extension

The Poplar extension works have gone very smoothly with very little disruption to surrounding businesses. The work zone has been kept very tight, clean and tidy.

Downer perform another well executed business friendly tram construction zone, leaving a clear walkway both side of the zone keeping businesses very happy.

Hereford Street Upgrade
Work on the Hereford Street upgrade is progressing well and the project is still on track to be finished by NZ Cup and Show Week.

By the end of next week, all the paving will be laid on the south side of the street between the TSB Bank and Boulevard Restaurant and Bar, apart from some minor finishing around manholes and street lights. The north side of the road is expected to be paved by NZ Cup and Show Week. Raised planter boxes have been built on both sides of the road in preparation for the planting of hardy, deciduous trees and new, better quality lighting is currently being installed.

In the first week of November, the current seal on the road will be removed between the new kerbs and replaced with new asphalt over the full length of the street. Contractor City Care will be working overnight shifts during this week to complete the road in time for NZ Cup and Show Week. This work is planned for Sunday 21 October and the evenings of Monday 1 November and Tuesday 2 November but is weather dependent. Some of this work is being undertaken in the evenings because it is very noisy, and the road will need to be closed to traffic completely at those times.

The project team will continue to be in touch with businesses over the next few weeks to talk to them about how the upcoming work may affect them.

However, if you have any questions or concerns about the construction work, please continue to contact Council Contracts Engineer Martin Polglase on 941 5056 or 027 645 1466. For any inquiries about City Care’s operations, please contact the contractor’s representative Stacey Shepherd on 941 7207. City Care can be contacted after hours on 941 7200.
