Latest Update - CBD Earthquake Notice
Wednesday, 5 January 2010 9:25 am

Happy New year to you all. We have a big year ahead for us this year and time to work even closer together to ensure we get our share of the discretionary spend out there.

First up, I am working on a city only Boxing Day (Replay) promotion idea to try and get back some of what was lost through the lost Boxing Day earthquake where many businesses were unable to trade and have called for the major retailers to assist with some great promotional discount items. The promotion will need to be before the end of this month so our customers can take advantage of this two hours free parking, which runs through to the end of this month.

To ensure the promotion gets some traction I would need your business to look at what it could do to make this promotional idea get strong support from the customers. Most of you are in sale mode but we would need something a little more too really drive people into the city. We would work with a the precincts and enlist volunteers from the retail community to assist in creating an interesting and fun atmosphere throughout the city, much like the successful High Street market in December but on a larger scale. If you would like to be a part of the team to drive this, please let me know.

The state of the city is a little worse with more buildings that may require demolition so we have to ensure we do not get a repeat of the

160 Manchester Street
demolition. I had assurances from the Southern Demolition site manager Alan Edge that they would be working through the Christmas period but they have not. They put in a few hours late last week but there has been no sign of them again in the last four days.

I would like to thank the fine effort put in over the last couple of weeks from property owners and property managers who worked tirelessly to open as many businesses as we could. This is holiday season and many of these people were starting to enjoy a well-deserved break. With that said, below is an update of where the city is at currently, who is now open and who remains closed.
